Sipalay Mayor Maria Gina Lizares signing the executive order*

Mayor Maria Gina Lizares signed an executive order creating the Sipalay City Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Council on Friday, June 30.

Executive Order No. 13 signed by Lizares states that the ICT council aims to pursue sustainable gains for Sipalaynons and to develop Sipalay as a next wave digital city.

The ICT council will be known as the Federation for Information and Communications Technology in Sipalay (FITS), which will be composed of the mayor, vice mayor, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, city departments, Sangguniang Kabataan federation, youth organizations, and other stakeholders, Lizares said.

The signing of the executive order was in time with the closing celebration of the ICT month in the city.

Lizares said that the ICT council aims to convene stakeholders to create vital steps to make Sipalay a “smart city”.

“The need for high volume, high-speed data management, communication capability, and information sharing is critical for both private and public sectors,” the executive order also said.

The council will be composed of various industry clusters like business enabling, infrastructure, talents, and cost of doing business, the executive order stated.

When convened, FITS aims to propose ICT policy, advance ICT mechanisms, prepare strategies to enhance ICT as a development tool, create a ICT-Business Process Management (BPM) portfolio providing readily accessible and essential information to industry locators, and promote Sipalay as an ICT hub.*
