PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, Negros Island Region police director, has ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into a violent attack that left a 9-year-old girl dead and her two siblings injured in Hacienda Badiang, Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City, on Saturday, February 7.
The investigation was launched after the victims’ father returned home to find his three children inside their room with their heads appearing to have been bashed with stones.
While the incident reportedly occurred around 11:30 a.m., it was officially reported to the Silay City Component City Police Station at 1:55 p.m., prompting an immediate response from the Silay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to transport the surviving 14-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy to the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital.
The victims’ father works as a farm overseer in Bacolod, while the mother works abroad.
Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) condemned the attack on the children and has offered a P50,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the unidentified culprit.
Ibay said that the probe must be objective, evidence-based, and exhaustive, directing all concerned units to pursue every lead to ensure justice for the minor victims.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We assure them that the police will exert all efforts to uncover the truth behind this incident and hold those responsible accountable,” Ibay said.
The Silay City police appealed to residents of Barangay E. Lopez and the general public to cooperate with authorities by providing any relevant information that may aid in the swift resolution of this case.*
