Senior citizen swept away by river current in Bais City 

A 61-year-old man was swept away by strong river currents in Barangay Cambagahan, Bais City, Negros Oriental, on Tuesday morning, Nov. 25.

The police identified the victim as Elioterio Delo Santos, a resident of Sitio Tabuay.

Initial reports said the victim, his wife, and their 25-year-old son were crossing the Cabay River during the height of Typhoon Verbena.

The family was on their way to seek medical treatment for the son, who had been sick with fever for two weeks.

Relatives told police the victim first helped his son cross the river and then went back for his wife.

He was swept away by the flood current while attempting to cross again.

His wife and son were able to reach safety and called for help.

Personnel from the Bais City police and the CDRRMO have launched search and rescue operations.

Authorities said the victim has not yet been found and has not been declared dead or alive.*
