A senior citizen drowned in Sitio Lamawan, Brgy Sto. Rosario, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, on Monday, Sept. 2.
Edgardo Toliba, 74, a businessman and a resident of Sitio Lamawan drowned at sea after he was carried by strong waves, the police reported.
The report said while the victim was swimming near the shore, he was hit by big waves.
The victim called for help and bystanders threw a floatation device and rope but the strong current carried him away.
The victim was retrieved by the Binalbagan Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office personnel and brought to Binalbagan Infirmary where he was declared dead.*
