Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said the shooting incident at the Senate on Wednesday evening was “embarrassing.”
“It tarnished the image of the Senate because I’m sure the world was watching,” Lacson said on Thursday.
“Many around the world saw what happened in the Senate of the Philippines,” he said.
There were some doubts that those gunshots were staged, he noted.
Lacson said he hopes the Senate can recover from it and go on with its work.
Senator Ronald Dela Rosa has made it clear that he does not want to be surrendered to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Lacson noted.
“So I guess he left the Senate because he would rather hide. He is not under the protection of the Senate anymore so he is on his own,” Lacson said.
“We hope that the Senate will still be able to function, especially now that Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment documents have been forwarded,” he said.
“I think that the Filipinos will be watching what the next move of the Senate will be,” he said.*
