Sea trips in Negros Island suspended due to ‘Uwan’

The Philippine Coast Guard on Sunday, Nov. 9,  suspended all sea travel across Negros Island as Typhoon “Uwan” continues to affect the region.

The  Coast Guard Stations in Northern Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental on Sunday issued advisories halting all vessel trips within their respective areas due to the hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over  Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental and  Siquijor.

In Northern Negros Occidental, the suspension covers the ports in Bacolod, Sagay, Cadiz, Escalante, and other nearby cities and municipalities.

The order temporarily prohibits all trips to and from Cebu, Manila, Guimaras, and Iloilo until weather conditions improve.

In Negros Oriental, several scheduled trips were canceled, including the Ocean Jet Fast Ferries from Dumaguete to Tagbilaran and Siquijor, M/V Lite Ferry Twelve from Dumaguete to Dapitan, and M/V Trisha Kerstin 1 bound for Siquijor.

The Coast Guard said operations will resume once sea and weather conditions return to normal.

Authorities reminded vessel operators that only empty ships seeking shelter will be allowed to sail, provided a written request is submitted. Passengers and cargo transport remain strictly prohibited during the suspension.

The Coast Guard advised the public to stay updated on official bulletins and avoid unnecessary sea travel for safety.*
