The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the allocation of P14 million for the first tranche of the Modified Salary Schedule for Local Government Personnel on Wednesday, August 14, Councilor Jude Thaddeus Sayson said.
Sayson, SP Committee on Appropriation and Finance chairman, said the granting of the salary adjustments to Bacolod City government employees is mandated in an executive order issued by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez had requested the SP to pass an appropriation ordinance adopting and authorizing the implementation of the First Tranche of the Modified Salary Schedule for Local Government Personnel directed under Executive Order No. 64, Series of 2024.
The P14 million will be sourced from the Special Purpose Appropriations – Other Personnel Benefits Fund of the 2024 Annual Budget, the mayor said.
EO 64 signed by Marcos Jr. on August 2, grants a four-tranche salary increase and a medical allowance to government workers.
It covers all civilian government personnel in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, constitutional commissions, and other constitutional offices.
Marcos ordered the increase in salaries of government personnel to “attract, retain, and engage high-performing civil servants.”
“The salary increase does not apply to individuals working in government through job orders, contracts of service, consultancy, or service contracts with no employer-employee relations,” it said.
The salary increase for government workers took effect on January 1 and will be given retroactively.
The second tranche will be implemented on Jan. 1, 2025, while the third and fourth tranches will start on the same date in 2026 and 2027.*CPG with a report from PNA
