The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is giving a P20 million grant to Bacolod workers through its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers, or the TUPAD, Program.
The DOLE-TUPAD assistance was relayed by presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to Mayor Evelio Leonardia, a press release from the Bacolod City Information Office said Friday, October 15.
Leonardia attended Thursday, Oct. 14, the orientation of barangay captains and barangay treasurers on the implementation of the TUPAD Program at the Bacolod City National High School Gym.
Leonardia reminded the barangay executives to implement the program correctly.
“The sooner we can give this TUPAD program, the better. We have this opportunity so we have to maximize this. I am thankful to Mayor Sara Duterte for this assistance and also for the RT-PCR machine she gave the last time. She could have given it to other cities or provinces, but she gave it to us,” the mayor said.
In May, Duterte donated to Bacolod a Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction machine- a Molarray MA-6000 Real-time Quantitative PCR- with 20 sampling kits, the press release said.
TUPAD is a community-based program that provides assistance through emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.
The P20 million TUPAD grant is expected to cater to at least 4,361 beneficiaries.
They will receive P3,950 for a 4-hour work schedule per day for 10 days.
Aside from the cash incentives, the beneficiaries can also avail of the GSIS Group Personal Accident Insurance (GPAI) for one whole year.
Joining the orientation were Ma. Victoria Diwata Borines, focal coordinator of DOLE -TUPAD; Mary Agnes Capigon, head of DOLE- Negros Occidental Field Office; Councilor Lady Gles Pallen, who is the president of the Liga ng mga Barangay; Executive Assistant Butch Soliguen, Public Employment Service Office-Bacolod head and Ma. Rebecca Balicas of DOLE and PESO.
In May this year, about 400 Bacolodnons also received financial assistance under the TUPAD program.*
