San Enrique town in Negros Occidental is now under a state of calamity due to heavy rains and flooding that affected almost the entire town, Mayor Jilson Tubillara said on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The San Enrique Sangguniang Bayan approved the request of Tubillara for the declaration on Monday.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council resolution recommending the state of calamity declaration said due to the effects of Southwest Monsoon flooding in all parts of the town has affected 9,262 families or 29,823 individuals.
It also said 1,945 individuals had evacuated as of Sunday.
The declaration of a state of calamity is necessary in order to extend relief to the affected families and to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure by using the 30 percent Quick Response Fund of the town, the resolution said.*
