The getaway vehicle of the culprits behind the P1.4 million robbery at the Gaisano Mall in Brgy. Palampas, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, was last seen in Batangas City, the police reported.

Two unidentified men wearing bonnets robbed the largest mall in San Carlos on Aug. 19, Lt. Col. Nazer Canja, San Carlos police chief, said.

They robbed Grace Pharmacy, Galleon Enterprise, Yung Luck Star Jewelry, and Handyman located in the mall of P1.4 million in cash, tools, and jewelry, he said.

Canja said a 372-meter tunnel adjacent to the JYC Building, along C.L. Ledesma Avenue was the entry and exit point of the burglars to the mall.

The two burglars had three accomplices who waited in the getaway car, a white Mitsubishi Montero, he said.

The culprits, who did not speak Hiligaynon and Cebuano, stayed at a resort in Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental, before they committed the crime, Canja said.

The police chief also said that in collaboration with the Land Transportation Office they have identified the first and final owners of the white Mitsubishi Montero, which could help them in their continuing investigation.

Canja said that they have sought help of other police stations with cases using similar tactics and other agencies to determine the whereabouts of the accused.

The police have also advised the management of the mall to increase its security as it was the second robbery that occurred in their premises this year.*
