Thousands of Sagaynons witnessed the official lights-on ceremony to kick-off the annual Sagay Christmas Fair 2024 with the theme “What Can I Give this Christmas”, at the Sagay City Public Plaza, on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
This annual event is one of the anticipated activities in the city where thousands of Christmas lights and decorations are lit up, signaling the kick-off of a series of activities and performances at the city plaza, a press release from Sagay said Friday.
Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr. said “may this occasion be a reminder for every Sagaynon to be someone who always gives to contribute to the wellbeing of others”.
“Our theme speaks about what we can give this Christmas and I believe giving is a matter of the heart and must be a lifestyle”, the mayor said.
“Even if it’s Christmas or not, we continually contribute to the wellbeing of others to strengthen the bond of our community and create a better city”, he added.
The event was highlighted with the performances from Voice Idol of Sagay previous winners, the State University of Northern Negros Chorale, Sinigayan Kahoneros, and SUNN-Integrated Performing Arts Club who performed Christmas songs.
Prior to the main program, students from various schools joined the annual DepEd Christmas Lantern Parade wearing Christmas-inspired costumes and light decorations.
Javelosa, together with Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva led the countdown of the lights on ceremony.
Following the lights on was a 20-minute fireworks display.
Cueva said this Christmas, we are inspired to give the gifts of kindness, patience, generosity, and integrity not only during holidays but every day.
“May this season remind us to give our best and embrace the true spirit of Christmas: love, hope, and community”, he said, adding “We will continue to make Sagay a brighter, stronger, and more united city”.
There will be nightly band performances at the Sagay Plaza Promenade and at the Plaza stage from Dec. 18 to 21, the press release said.*
