The Committee on Finance of the Sagay City Sangguniang Panlungsod is conducting an inquiry into the failure of the city’s treasurer to release P7.3 million due health frontliners, Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva said on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
City Treasurer Juvy Pinongan has been invited to explain the non-release of the P7.3 million Health Emergency Allowance (HEA) before the SP Committee on Finance Wednesday morning.
Sagay Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr. said on Monday that doctors, nurses and other health frontliners complained that despite the arrival of their P7.3 million HEA from the national government in August they still had not received what was due them.
Javelosa said he directed the City Legal Office to investigate where the funds had gone.
City Administrator Ryan Bonghanoy said they are waiting for the results of the CLO probe so they can proceed based on its recommendations.
Pinongan told them she was busy and was still reconciling the funds for the frontliners, Bonghanoy said.
Pinongan also said she could not open the vault because she forgot the lock’s number combination, he added.
The vault remains sealed, he added.
Pinongan could not be reached for comment.*CPG
