There were no more traces of the 1.3 hectare molasses spill at the Sagay Marine Reserve in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, on Friday, August 9.
Roberto Togle, Resource Management Section head of the Sagay Marine Reserve, said the spill surrounding the Old Sagay Feeder Port had cleared up.
Negligence by the crew of the M/T Mary Queen of Charity docked at the Old Sagay Feeder Port in the loading of the molasses is believed to have caused the spill on Wednesday, a statement from the Sagay City government said on Thursday.
Togle said the vessel remains at the feeder port waiting for clearances from various agencies before it can depart.
They are also waiting for the results of the water samples taken after the spill, he said.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 6 personnel will be arriving in Sagay on Saturday to conduct an inspection, Togle said.*
