Sagay launches ‘under-the-sea’ marine-themed Christmas fair

Sagay City is celebrating the holiday season with an “under the sea” themed Christmas Fair at its public plaza that will run until Dec. 23.

A jellyfish-themed Christmas tree stands at the center, next to a giant parol (lantern) and nativity scene.

Marine creature-inspired décor, soft blue, white, and yellow lights, and coastal elements at the plaza pay tribute to Sagay’s identity as a coastal and creative city.

Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva said this year’s theme, “Keep on Shining,” reflects the character and compassion Sagaynons show even in difficult times.

He said the true light of Sagay does not come from decorations but from its people, whose unity and dedication continue to brighten the city’s path forward.

Vice Mayor Narwin Javelosa said the lights symbolize the strength Sagaynons carry within, adding that even the smallest spark of kindness can inspire and uplift others.

Rep. Alfredo Marañon III (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) said Sagay endured four typhoons in recent weeks but continues to stand strong.

There remains much to be grateful for in 2025, he said, as he encouraged everyone to shine through their abilities and character, saying “a Sagaynon can lead and shine.”

The Christmas Bazaar at the Taliambong Activity Center is open daily, showcasing 18 MSME stalls offering local crafts, food products, and holiday items.

Acoustic and full-band performances at the promenade stage also run nightly until the end of the fair.

Cueva encouraged Sagaynons to take part in the activities and support local entrepreneurs and artists as the community celebrates a meaningful and hopeful Christmas season.*
