“Run Sara Run” tarpaulins apparently urging Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to run for president in 2022 have surfaced in Bacolod City today, March 1.

Similar tarpaulins earlier emerged in other parts of Negros Occidental, including Himamaylan City.

Himamaylan Mayor Rogelio Raymund Tongson said he personally supports the campaign urging the Davao mayor to run for president.

There are other Negros Occidental mayors who share his stand, Tongson said, but did not name them.

It is up to those mayors to disclose their positions, he said.

Tongson said he supports the call for Carpio to run for president so she can carry on the good things started by her father, President Rodrigo Duterte.

He said the president has provided a lot of projects for Himamaylan City that have had a huge impact on his constituents.

He said the “Run Sara Run” tarpaulins are being put up spontaneously by individuals who believe in her ability to lead the country.

There is no specific group leading the move or any instructions from Manila and Davao to do so, he said.

The president on Sunday, February 28, said his daughter has no plans of being his successor in 2022 because she wants to focus on raising her three children.

“Sara doesn’t want to run because she has three kids who are still young. She wants to focus on her family. She told me that there’s still much time,” Duterte said.

Duterte maintained that he opposed the idea of letting his daughter follow in his footsteps.

Sara has repeatedly said she has no plan to run for president in 2022 and may only be convinced to seek the presidency by 2034.

Last week, the “Negros for Leni” group also launched a campaign urging Vice President Leni Robredo to run for president in 2022.*with a report from PNA
