The Rotary Club of Bacolod Central and the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP)-Bacolod Azucar Chapter formally turned over the detailed plans for the Book Nook project at Generoso Villanueva National High School, marking a major step in the collaborative initiative to promote reading and learning among students.

Architect Demie Verde, chapter president of UAP-Bacolod Azucar, and Architect Robert Aguillon, president of the Rotary Club of Bacolod Central, jointly presented the plans to Christine Castro, who received them on behalf of Principal Osward Acebedo, a press release from the club said Thursday, Oct. 1.

Architect Abemar Gegantoni, project chair, walked the attendees through the design and shared the inspiration behind the project, which aims to create a welcoming, comfortable space where students can read, study, and discover the joy of books.

Architecture students from the National University, who are members of the UAP Student Auxiliary (UAPSA-NU), will also take part in the project, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to a meaningful community undertaking.

The Book Nook is aligned with the club’s Literacy program and forms part of UAP-Bacolod Azucar’s Adopt-a-School project, reflecting both organizations’ commitment to improving educational opportunities for public school learners.

In keeping with its sustainability goals, the project will largely use recycled and upcycled materials sourced from the construction projects of UAP-Azucar’s architect-members, reducing waste while giving new life to materials that might otherwise be discarded.

The project is expected to be completed by December.*
