Robbery motive for killing of BPO union organizer: NBI

The National Bureau of Investigation’s parallel investigation indicates that the motive for the killing of a call center agent, who was an organizer of the BPO Industry Employees’ Network, was robbery, NBI Bacolod chief Renoir Baldovino said Friday, May 12.

Alex Dolorosa, 35, was found dead with 15 stab wounds at Purok Villa Rosario, Barangay Alijis, on April 24. His killing has been condemned by various groups, including the United States State Department.

The United States joins the Philippine government in condemning the brutal murder of Dolorosa, a trade union leader and LGBTQI+ activist in the Philippines, a US Department of State statement issued on April 30 said.

Baldovino said their investigation indicates that the killing of Dolorosa is not the work of hired killers or state sponsored as alleged by some groups.

The killing was not due to the alleged red tagging of Dolorosa or related to his union work, Baldovino added.

Dolorosa was last seen alive the night before he was killed with three male suspects who appeared to be acquaintances.

CCTV footage at about 3:30 a.m. of April 24 showed Dolorosa driving his motorcycle with a backrider in Barangay Alijis on the way to the area where he was found dead at 5:40 a.m., Baldovino said.

Dolorosa was following another motorcycle with two other males onboard, he added.

The victim did not appear threatened in the CCTV footage, Baldovino said.

His assailants took his motorcycle that has not been found, wallet, cellular phone and other personal belongings, Baldovino said.

NBI agents are investigating where the parts of the motorcycle may have been sold, he said.

The investigation is ongoing and they are following up several leads, Baldovino said.

On the night of April 23 Dolorosa ate dinner near the Bacolod City Government Center and is believed to have met the three suspects at the Panaad sa Negros Festival in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod, Baldovino said.*
