A routine response to a vehicular accident on Christmas Day led to the arrest of two drug personalities and the seizure of about 80 grams of suspected shabu, with a standard drug price of P544,000, at the national highway in Barangay San Teodoro, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.
Arrested were alias “Anthon,” 35, and alias “Phil,” 26, of Brgy 2, Kabankalan City, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) reported Friday.
At around 12:50 p.m. on December 25, the Binalbagan police responded to a vehicular accident involving a Toyota Wigo.
Police investigation showed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit roadside structures and a mango tree, resulting in significant damage.
Upon the arrival of police responders, the suspects fled the scene and boarded a tricycle in an attempt to evade authorities.
However, they were apprehended at Crossing Bag-o, Barangay San Jose, Binalbagan.
They were immediately brought by the police responders to the station and turned over to the duty traffic investigator.
Wondering why they were evading the police responders prompted the traffic investigator to check the black backpack, which led to the recovery of suspected illegal drugs, the PRO NIR reported.
The confiscated items will be forwarded to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office Forensic Unit for laboratory examination, while documents are being prepared for the filing of charges against the two suspects who are currently detained at the Binalbagan police station.*
