Riverside College student crowned Miss Bacolod MassKara Universe

Crowd favorite Kara Daniela Villarosa, 21, was crowned Miss Bacolod MassKara Universe at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum Wednesday night, October 19.

Villarosa, a Riverside College third year physical therapist student and an advocate of malnutrition awareness, bested 14 other candidates.

Villarosa also won the Best in Swimwear, Best in Evening Gown, and Miss Photogenic awards.

In the final question and answer portion of the pageant, Villarosa was asked if Bacolod should continue to smile despite what it has gone through during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her winning answer was “Being the City of Smiles I think we have to set an example to the rest of the country, we have to show them that even if we are faced with these challenges we are strong, we choose to rise from it all and we still decide to smile and for that I am so thankful to be standing here as a Bacolodnon.”

She was crowned by Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez who was assisted by his wife, Dominique Lopez Benitez, Rep. Greg Gasataya and businessman Ian Lo.

Janine Gelera, a 21-year-old USLS student, was crowned Miss Bacolod MassKara World and Jan Marie Bordon, a 21-year-old La Consolacion College Bacolod student, was crowned Miss Bacolod MassKara International.

First runner up and Darling of Social Media was Eirine Juliane Granada and second runner up was Sandale Masangcay, who also won the best in festival costume award.

Miss Congeniality was Yvonne Catamco and Miss Talent wasJan Marie Bordon.

Miss Bacolod MassKara Universe took home P150,000, Miss Bacolod MassKara World – P120,000, Miss Bacolod MassKara International – P100,000, 1st runner-up – P80,000 and the 2nd runner-up – P50,000.

Two former national beauty titlists, Billie Hakenson and Pauline Amelinckx hosted the pageant.

Hakenson was Miss Universe Philippines 2020 fourth runner-up while Amelinckx was recently crowned as Miss Universe Philippines Charity 2022.

Rising heartthrob Kyle Echarri and OPM sensation Zack Tabudlo entertained the crowd.

Pageant chairperson was Carlos Durana and director was Rodney Mitz Ascalon.*
