The Bago City Hospital officially opened its revitalized Operating Room (OR) on Monday, August 18.
Bago City Mayor Marina “Mayette” Javellana-Yao said the project will bring “new doors of hope, healing, and life for our people.”
The project, dubbed “New Beginnings,” reflects a core promise of the mayor’s administration to provide accessible healthcare, according to a press release from Bago City.
“Healthcare is not simply a service; it is a lifeline, and every Bagonhon deserves that lifeline within reach,” Javellana-Yao said.
The revitalized OR is now able to provide more services to Bagonhons, including Tonsillectomy, Cholecystectomy, Herniorrhaphy, and Cesarean Sections, among other surgeries, the press release said.
Councilor Leonilo del Carmen, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Health, said hospital staff are stretching their capacity and resources to meet the demands of public service.
He said the city government is reinforcing its medical and nursing services at the hospital with four surgeons, four obstetrician-gynecologists (OB-GYN), four anesthesiologists, eight internal medicine specialists, 15 nurses, three nursing aides, and three OR utilities.
The city is also inviting visiting consultants to serve the hospital better and plans to open a hemodialysis unit and an Outpatient Department once the construction of the covered foot walk is complete, del Carmen said.
The councilor, who is also a doctor, announced that the city government is planning to elevate the 50-bed Level 1 Bago City Hospital to Level 2 in preparation for constructing a bigger tertiary hospital in a new strategic location.
“This infrastructure (Bago City Hospital) may later be converted to a school of nursing or midwifery,” he said.*
