To provide opportunities for returning Kabankalanon overseas workers, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in partnership with the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) conducted “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan,” an OFW Forum at the Kabankalan City Function Hall on March 5.

Councilor Miguel Zayco, chairman of the Committee on Trade and Industry challenged the OFWs to actively participate and get involved in the different recovery programs of the government.

Elma Bachita, City PESO officer, said, “the City Government of Kabankalan has programs for OFWs. These are the “Balikabankalan”, a program exclusively for Kabankalan City residents which aims to provide P20,000.00 livelihood assistance to returning OFWs for the following reasons: who were sent home because of maltreatment of their employers and victims of illegal recruitment.

There is also the Welfare Case Instake which assists OFW with distress cases. The forum is in coordination with OWWA, DFA and POEA.

Mia Ojero, DTI Trade and Industry Analyst, conducted a seminar on entrepreneurship, business planning and the different OWWA requirements to avail of the grants. It is facilitated by Victor Alamon, DTI representative of Kabankalan.

The forum is one of the programs of Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr. to address the need of returning OFW residents.*
