The human remains found in Brgy. Camingawan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Monday, January 3, are those of a man who went missing six months ago.
The police said 50-year-old farmer Leonardo Benigay was killed by his son, 25-year-old Miguel Benigay.
The suspect confessed to his uncle that he killed his father because he was accused of taking the victim’s money, and was severely beaten.
When the suspect got a chance, he took a hammer and struck the victim on the head that caused his death, police said.
The suspect, who is also a farmer, and his brother then buried the victim in a vacant lot.
The suspect was later rushed to a hospital in Kabankalan after he tried to end his life by drinking pesticide.*
