Remain alert for floods, landslides, LGUs told

Local government units in Negros Occidental have been reminded to remain alert for floods and landslides, Irene Bel Ploteña, Provincial Disaster Management Program Division head, said Monday, July 17.

She said rains brought on by the southwest monsoon are expected to last for three more days.

There were no untoward incidents reported in Negros Occidental from rains brought on by the southwest monsoon, which were enhanced by Tropical Storm “Dodong” last week, she said.

“Dodong” exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Saturday.

However, PAGASA is monitoring a new low pressure area (LPA) that entered the PAR Monday noon that could further intensify into a tropical cyclone, which would then be called “Egay”.

The LPA was 925 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao Monday afternoon.*
