The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) announced Tuesday, March 14, that it has filed complaints against the secretary of embattled Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. (Neg. Or., 3rd District) and five others who were arrested in raids on Friday.

They were arrested by the CIDG, Special Action Force, and the Philippine Army during the simultaneous implementation of search warrants at five different addresses in Basay and Bawayan City, Negros Oriental, which included properties of Teves.

Rep. Teves, Kurt Mathew Teves, and Axel Teves were not around during the implementation of the search warrants on their houses, the CIDG said.

However, criminal complaints against them for violation of RA 10591 and RA 9516 will be filed as soon as possible, the CIDG said.

Seized during the raids were three hand grenades, ten short firearms, six rifles, 465 assorted live ammunition, 194 empty shells and 22 magazines, the CIDG said.

The CIDG presented the five arrested persons for inquest proceedings before the State Prosecutors of the Department of Justice on Sunday.

Criminal complaints for violations of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and RA 9516 or the Law on Explosives were filed against Jose Pablo Gimarangan and Roland Aguisanda Pablio, in which Rep. Teves Jr. is also impleaded as respondent, the CIDG said.

Teves secretary Hannah Mae Sumerano, Heracleo Sangasin Oray, Rodolfo Teves Maturan alias Jojo Maturan, and Joseph Kyle Catan Maturan were charged with infringement of RA 10591.

All arrested persons are under the custody of the CIDG National Capital Region Field Unit.

“The PNP-CIDG enforces the law regardless of one’s status in the society. We will assure impartiality in the conduct of the investigation and will hold criminals accountable for the offense they committed,” PBGen. Romeo Caramat Jr., CIDG director, said.

INQUIRY CANCELLED
The House Committee on Public Order and Safety has cancelled its scheduled inquiry on police escorts of slain Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo who were allegedly missing on the day he was killed.

“In deference with the ongoing investigation, the Speaker Martin Romualdez deemed it right to cancel the hearing,” Sta Rosa City Rep. Dan Fernandez said.
