Rape topped the list of 264 focus crimes committed in Negros Occidental from January to May this year, the Philippine National Police reported Friday, June 2.
The PNP report was presented at the 2nd Quarter Joint Provincial Peace and Order Council and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council meeting presided by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson at the Social Hall of the Negros Occidental Capitol.
The PNP reported that of the eight focus crimes there were 69 rape cases, followed by theft at 66, murder – 57, robbery – 27, homicide – 24, physical injury -12, carnapping (motorcycles) – 8 and carnapping (motor vehicles) – 1.
Among 154 focus crimes in the cities of Negros Occidental the highest number of focus crimes committed were in Kabankalan at 24, San Carlos – 20, Cadiz – 19, Sagay -16, Bago -15, Himamaylan – 14, La Carlota – 142 Talisay – 11, Silay – 7, Sipalay – 6, Escalante – 5 and Victorias – 5.
The highest number of rape cases in the cities were in Sagay City with 8.
Among the 110 focus crimes committed in the towns of Negros Occidental, Murcia had the highest at 14 followed by Cauayan – 12, Calatrava – 10, Hinoba-an -8, La Castellana – 7, Candoni – 6, Moises Padilla – 6, Toboso – 6, Ilog – 5 , Isabela – 5, Pontevedra – 5, San Enrique – 4, EB Magalona – 4, Valladolid -4, Binalbagan – 3, Hinigaran – 3 Manapla – 3- Pulupandan – 3 and Salvador Benedicto – 2.
Murcia also had the most number of rape cases among the towns with 5.
The Negros Occidental PNP also reported that it conducted 349 drug operations from January to May and arrested 438 persons.
Seized were 1,234.039 grams of marijuana and 1,453.262 grams of shabu estimated to cost P7,665,601.92, the PNP report added.
The report said Negros Occidental is generally peaceful and the downtrend in crimes was attributed to intensified police visibility.
However, the PNP also said traffic accidents are still a primary concern considering that there are road networks that are still not well lighted.*
