PSA: 1.1M poor individuals in Neg. Occ. in first quarter

There were about 1.12 million poor individuals in Negros Occidental in the first semester of the year, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported.

The PSA Preliminary 2023 First Semester Official Poverty Statistics shows that 1,124,450 individuals are considered poor in the province, out of the 2,102, 204.

The number of poor individuals in Bacolod City is about 91,820.

Negros Occidental has the highest number of poor individuals in the region, followed by Iloilo Province at 620,450, Antique at 165,730, Aklan at 152,290, Capiz at 114,830, and Guimaras at 48,050.


There are 227,450 poor families in Negros Occidental out of the 414,070 in the region, the PSA said.

In the country, the first semester of 2023 poverty incidence among the population or the proportion of poor Filipinos whose per capita income is not sufficient to meet their basic food and non-food needs was estimated at 22.4 percent or 25.24 million Filipinos.*
