PRO NIR on heightened alert for tropical storm ‘Basyang’

The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) has placed all police units on heightened alert as Tropical Storm “Basyang” is forecast to affect the region by Friday, Feb. 6.

In line with its preparedness measures, PRO NIR has upgraded the alert status of all units to ensure rapid response and uninterrupted law enforcement operations.

This measure enables the immediate deployment of personnel, intensified visibility patrols, and the swift mobilization of resources in anticipation of any emergency or weather-related incident, the PRO NIR said.

To ensure a coordinated response, all units have been directed to work closely with Local Government Units (LGUs) and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs) to synchronize actions and provide appropriate assistance as the need arises.

Search and Rescue (SAR) Teams across the region have also been activated and placed on standby for possible deployment, while personnel, equipment, mobility assets, and communication systems are being readied to support continuous operations.

PRO NIR advised the public to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures in preparation for the storm.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official weather updates, secure their homes and belongings, prepare emergency supplies, and follow instructions from local authorities, it said.

The public is further urged to avoid risk-prone areas and immediately report emergencies to the nearest police station, the PRO NIR said.*
