PRO-NIR chief extends support to wounded cop

Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) director, PBGen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, extended support and financial assistance to a wounded police officer recovering at the Silliman University Medical Center in Dumaguete City on Thursday, Sept. 4.

The officer was stabbed in the eye during a hot pursuit operation in Brgy. Milagrosa, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental on Sept. 3.

The police said he was part of a responding team investigating an earlier stabbing incident in the barangay when the suspect, a 35-year-old resident, suddenly attacked him with a knife.

The policeman was rushed to Ace Hospital in Bayawan City with heavy bleeding after a major artery in his eye was hit.

He later underwent emergency treatment before being transferred to Dumaguete, where he is now in stable condition.

Prior to the attack on the officer, the suspect also stabbed a 58-year-old woman who refused to sell him liquor, leaving her seriously injured.

The suspect was later arrested after attempting to flee.

During his hospital visit, Ibay assured the officer’s family of the PNP’s continued support and turned over initial financial assistance, which was received by the policeman’s wife, Lt. Anacleta Noynay, to help cover hospitalization expenses.

Ibay emphasized that the welfare of police personnel remains a top priority of PRO-NIR, saying the organization stands firmly by its men and women, especially during times of adversity.*
