President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson the first chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) of the newly created Negros Island Region (NIR).

Lacson received his appointment papers from the Regional Director Lailyn Ortiz of the NIR Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and her OIC-Assistant Regional Director Teodora Sumagaysay at the Capitol in Bacolod City on Thursday morning.

The governor previously headed the RPOC-Western Visayas.

DILG Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla called him over a month ago to inform him of his appointment and finally he received the official appointment papers on Thursday, Lacson said.

Ortiz, in a letter informing Lacson of his appointment, said your appointment “affirms the national government’s trust in your capability to lead the RPOC-NIR with excellence and integrity.”

“We are confident that under your stewardship, the Council will continue to advance policies and initiatives that ensure the safety, harmony, and development of our communities,” she added.

The NIR is composed of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.*
