Pork prices increase

The Provincial Veterinary Office reported that the average pork prices in Negros Occidental increased by P1.94 per kilo this week compared to last week.

Prices of pork are also expected to increase further in the fourth quarter of this year, Dr. Placeda Lemana, OIC provincial veterinarian, said Wednesday, August 9.

PVO records this week showed that the average prevailing market price of pork is at P247.94/kilo as of August 7, which is P1.94 higher than the July 31 record of P246/kilo.

Average beef prices also indicated a P3.20 increase from P346.34 to P349.54 per kilo while dressed broiler chicken also increased by P2.60, from P201.51 to P204.11/kilo.

Meanwhile, average prices of carabao beef decreased by P7.16/per kilo, from P325.40 to P318.24, and chevon or goat meat slightly decreased by P0.32 from P363.69 to P363.38/kilo.

Dressed native chicken remained the same at P256.39/kilo.

Highest meat prices were recorded in the cities of Escalante, La Carlota, San Carlos, Sagay, and town of E.B. Magalona, while towns of Salvador Benedicto, Pulupandan, Hinigaran, Valladolid, and Murcia recorded the lowest.

Meanwhile, chicken egg prices also posted slight increases on their average prices.

Small-sized eggs is at P7.40/piece, medium is at P8.09, large is at P8.91. extra-large is at P9.91, salted egg is at P15.09, while balut is P29.20/piece.

Average prices of live animals also remained the same with breeding carabao at P158/kilo while those that are for slaughter is at P157.83/kilo;

Cattle is at P160.50 (breeding) and P159.83 (slaughter), swine is at P128.33 (breeding) and P137.50 (slaughter), goat is at P163 (breeding) and P135.17 (slaughter).*
