Pork prices expected to drop in Bacolod as supply arrives

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said on Monday, February 26, that he expects the exorbitant prices of pork to drop in Bacolod City with the arrival of supply from other areas.

Benitez on Friday, February 23, issued Executive Order No. 9 Series of 2024 lifting the ban on the entry of pigs, boar semen, pork products, and other pork related food items into Bacolod City.

This will allow the entry of pigs and pork into Bacolod, even from red zones, since the city is also classified as a red zone, he said.

Pork has been selling at Bacolod City markets at P400 to P410 a kilo.

Benitez said it was high time to allow pigs and pork into the city with the high prices in the markets caused by limited supply.

Within the week shipments are expected to arrive, Benitez said.

Benitez said the price council will also be convened to double check the sudden surge in prices.*
