Political season to heat up with filing of COCs Oct.1-8 

The political season will heat up in October, Negros Occidental Provincial Election Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said Thursday, May 30. 

Comelec Resolution No. 10999 released Wednesday set the filling of Certificates of Candidacy for the May 12, 2025 polls from October 1 to 8 this year, he said. 

A new provision states that in case of voluntary withdrawal, substitution will only be allowed from October 1 to 8, he said. 

In case of disqualification or death, substitution is allowed until mid-day of Election Day, with a candidate under the same political party and having the same surname, Ananoria said. 

The period to hold political conventions by political parties to select or nominate candidates will be from September 1 to 28, he said. 

The last day to file applications for local and overseas voter registration is September 30. 

The election period will be from Jan. 12 to June 11, 2025, wherein there will be a ban on carrying or transporting firearms or other deadly weapons, unless authorized in writing by the Comelec, Ananoria said. 

The campaign period for candidates for senator and party-list groups will be from Feb 11 to May 10. 

The campaign period for candidates for member of the House of Representatives, and provincial, city, municipal officials will be from March 28 to May 10. 

Campaigning on April 17, Maundy Thursday, April 18, Good Friday, and May 11 is prohibited, Ananoria said.*
