Police taking steps to curb rise in vehicular accidents

The Negros Occidental police is taking steps to curb the recent rise in vehicular accidents in the province, Col. Leo Pamittan, provincial police director, said Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Pamittan said “I noticed lately in our spot reports that there are so many vehicular accidents”.

He noted that it has been raining and the roads are slippery.

He instructed the police chiefs in Negros Occidental to make their personnel visible, especially at intersections and busy streets to help warn motorists against speeding, Pamittan said.

Pamittan said he is planning to hold a dialog with local government officials to come up with a program with the Land Transportation Office and the Department of Public Works and Highways to improve the road situation that lack warning signs.

A program on the dissemination of simple tips on how to drive safely is also needed, he added.

Pamittan said with the ongoing milling season, he has also instructed the chiefs of police to warn trucks hauling sugarcane to have proper lights.

Trucks should also not be overloaded to prevent cane from spilling on the road and causing accidents, Pamittan said.

Pamittan also reminded the public to take necessary precautions against thieves with the Christmas season approaching.

Homes should be secured while families go on reunions and outings, he said.

Pamittan said police security measures will also be raised during the holidays.*
