Suspected shabu worth P20.5 million, which may have been intended to be sold during the highlight week of the MassKara Festival, was seized by the police in Purok Neptune, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, Tuesday afternoon, October 17.
The Bacolod police have been keeping a tight watch on the entry of shabu into the city during the MassKara festivities that will culminate on Sunday, Col. Noel Aliño, Bacolod police director said.
Jummel Asong Camento, alias “Tata”, a high-value target, was arrested in a buy-bust operation and 3.20 kilograms of suspected shabu valued at P20,536,000 was seized, the Bacolod City Police Office reported.
Aliño said Camento had been the subject of a month long police surveillance operation.
BCPO Drug Enforcement Unit acting head Capt. Joven Mogato told DIGICAST NEGROS the suspect had previously been arrested in 2012 for alleged illegal drug selling but his case was dismissed in 2022.
“Apart from the report from concerned citizens, we have been monitoring the suspect,” Mogato said.
Mogato added that the suspect allegedly supplies shabu to other illegal drug sellers in the city.
The police are also looking at the possibility that the suspect has been getting his supply from the members of the Caunda Drug Group, who were previously arrested in August this year.
He said that they are still investigating if Camento is also a member of the notorious drug group.
“We are still validating the reports we have been receiving in terms of where he gets his supply”, he said.
The suspect is now under the custody of Bacolod City Police Station 8.*
