The Philippine National Police is on full alert for Holy Week, PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, officer-in-charge of the Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), said on Tuesday, April 15.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Emergency Operations Center is also going on blue alert starting Wednesday until Monday, April 21.
Ibay said the PNP will be on full alert for Holy Week onwards until the May 12 polls.
The police will be on full alert to secure residents observing Holy Week rites at Churches and pilgrimage sites, and those going to beaches and resorts, he said.
The police will also secure seaports, airports bus terminals with an influx of people expected to arrive for the holidays, Ibay said.
While they are under full alert policemen will not be allowed to go on leave or day offs, he said.
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson reminded the public not to drink alcohol and drive, especially those on motorcycles, during the holidays.
“You don’t have to go fast, what’s important is you reach your destination,” he said.
Lacson reminded Negrenses to remember why Holy Week is being celebrated.
Let us meditate and focus on Christ this Holy Week, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer also said.*
