Police officer injured in attack near Bacolod Central Market

A police officer was injured after being attacked at Luzuriaga Street near the Central Market in Brgy. 12, Bacolod City, Monday morning, Dec. 22.

Police identified the victim as a 48-year-old officer assigned to the Bacolod City Police Office and a resident of Brgy. Sum-ag.

Police Station 1 investigation showed that the policeman was walking when the man suddenly hit him on the head from behind with a steel pipe, causing injury.

Authorities said the suspect, a 56-year-old man known as alias “Juan” and a resident of Brgy. Bata, then allegedly pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the officer without any apparent provocation.

In self-defense, the officer fired his service firearm, hitting the suspect on the right leg.

Both the police officer and the suspect were brought to a hospital for medical treatment.

The police said an investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and to file the appropriate charges against the suspect.*
