The police are investigating 39 flood control projects in Bacolod City, including a flood wall at the Lupit River in Barangay 40, where a section collapsed.
Col. Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod police director, said on Monday, Sept. 30, that they were directed to conduct the investigation by the Philippine National Police headquarters on the request of Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon.
Based on the reports a section of the flood wall at Lupit River caved in during Severe Tropical Storm Opong but it is still being investigated.
Coronica said they were ordered to conduct the investigation of the flood control projects in Bacolod about three weeks ago and it is still ongoing.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines has also been tapped to investigate flood control projects, he said.
They have been asked to determine if the flood control projects listed exist, if they have been completed and the condition that they are in, he said.
They will then submit their reports to the PNP regional headquarters that will them turn them over to Camp Crame, he said.
They are not at liberty to divulge their findings, it will be up to the DPWH secretary to do so, he said.
Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya said he asked the DPWH to look into the collapse of the section of the Lupit River flood wall and is waiting for their official report,
If it is still under warranty the contractor should undertake the necessary repair, the DPWH should address the problem, he said.*
