Police arrest farm overseer for rape-slay of granddaughter

A farm overseer was arrested on Monday, January 9, for allegedly raping and hacking to death his 17-year-old step-granddaughter in Purok Masinolondon, Brgy. Magsaysay, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

Cadiz City Deputy Chief of Police, Capt. Gina Fernandez, told DIGICAST NEGROS that Federico Delfin, 62, was arrested in the house of relatives in Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City, after he disappeared from his home in Cadiz on Sunday.

The victim’s body was found naked and lifeless in a sugarcane plantation, 300 meters away from her house, Monday morning, the police said.

The victim was found with hack wounds on different parts of her body, and recovered in the area was a bolo with a scabbard that was about 24 inches long, the police added.

Fernandez said an autopsy confirmed that the victim was raped.

Rape with homicide charges will be filed against the suspect, Fernandez said.

Meanwhile, Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. commended the police for their speedy arrest of the suspect as they do not condone such incidents.

It is sad that such a brutal crime happened, he said.*
