A member of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group died after his motorcycle sideswiped a parked delivery truck along Guanzon Street in Brgy. 1, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, early Sunday morning, Nov. 30.
The police identified the victim as a 32-year-old patrolman assigned to the Maritime Sub-Station in Brgy. Daan Banua, Kabankalan, and a resident of Brgy. Puso, La Castellana.
The incident happened at around 4:40 a.m. in front of Angels Memorial Park, about three kilometers from the Kabankalan City Police Station.
He was driving a Honda Click 125 toward the sub-station when he hit the rear steel railing of a Foton close van truck parked on the outer lane of the highway.
Investigators said the truck had its hazard lights on but no early warning device was placed behind it.
The truck driver, a 28-year-old resident of San Pedro, Laguna, presented complete and updated vehicle documents during the investigation.
Responding officers also recovered the patrolman’s service firearm, a Girsan pistol, at the scene.
Both vehicles and the truck driver remain under the custody of the Kabankalan police as the investigation continues.*
