Plotria bags 2nd Palanca award

A Bacolod radio station manager won his second Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature at rites held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Friday night, Nov. 22.

Serafin “Jopy” Plotria, iFM 94.3 Bacolod station manager, won the first prize in the Hiligaynon Short Story category for his entry “Ang Liwat nga Paglupad ni Lolo (Grandpa’s Flight Again)”.

Plotria said “Ang Liwat nga Paglupad ni Lolo” is based on the lives of Filipino special effects artists in Hollywood and their creative process in creating characters and designs.

Plotria’s writings are also known for promoting the unique cultures of Negrosanon by introducing them to places in the province.

Plotria won 3rd Prize in the same category last year for his essay entitled, “Puno sang Aligotgot” which is based on the events in Negros during Typhoon Odette.

The Palanca Awards stands as the longest-running and most prestigious literary competition in the Philippines.

It was named after the businessman and philanthropist Carlos Palanca Sr. and sponsored by the Carlos Palanca Foundation, Inc. This event maintains a tradition of encouraging writers to nurture and develop Philippine literature, a press release said.

A Palanca medal or recognition is a highly sought-after honor within the Filipino writing community, both locally and internationally, it added.*
