Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific cancelled their Cebu-Bacolod and Bacolod-Cebu flights on Monday, October 24, after the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) was closed.

The MCIA was closed after a Korean Air plane from Incheon, South Korea, overshot the runway after attempting to land during heavy rains Sunday night.

The airport will be closed until midnight Tuesday, October 25 while the Korean Air plane is being removed, Glenn Napuli, MCIA legal manager, said Monday.

He said the MCIA management is working on partially opening portions of the runway before midnight of October 25.

A Cebu Pacific advisory said among its cancelled flights Monday was 5J 126/127 flying the Cebu–Bacolod –Cebu route.

“We urge passengers travelling to and from Cebu to avoid going to the airport unless they have confirmed flights. For those travelling up to October 25 and who wish to voluntarily postpone their flights, they may avail of Cebu Pacific’s flexible options, which include free rebooking and travel fund, up to two hours before their scheduled time of departure,” the advisory said.

The Philippine Airlines advisory said PR 2287 Cebu-Bacolod
and PR 2288 Bacolod-Cebu were cancelled Monday.

Flights are unable to take off and land at the MCIA until clearing operations are completed, PAL said.*
