Petition drive on to shutdown dog pound, remove city vet

A petition drive to shutdown the Bacolod City pound and remove  the current city veterinarian has been launched, Pawssion Project announced.

“The dog pound in Bacolod has just become a mass grave for so many dogs and even cats again,” the group said in a Facebook post on Friday, Nov. 28.

“As much as we want to save all, there is just no way we can rescue every impounded dog because its expensive and we would never have space for at least 100,000 strays in Bacolod alone,” it said.

“When Bacolod had a new assistant vet, we were very happy because that meant we could rest from all the stress and expenses at the pound but really, the pound which we all agreed could hold maximum 100 dogs only reached 300+ at some point because its image was broadcasted to be a shelter and a no kill pound,” it said.

From 300 plus,  only very few were adopted, many died at the pound, in vain, Pawssion Project said.

“Now, It’s just getting worse with the original city vet back in power. The pound is filthy as hell, and they keep on impounding dogs even community dogs”, it added.

“There are already several groups in Bacolod working hard to help better animal welfare but the city vet just keeps on making things worst,” it said.

The petition (https://forms.gle/KYhipP7anwsYJfx39)  seeks the removal of Dr. Maria Agueda Trinidad Flores dela Torre, the city veterinarian.*
