Pedestrian dies, teen cyclist injured after Ceres bus hits them in Ilog

A pedestrian was killed while an 18-year-old bicycle rider was injured after they were hit by a Ceres bus at the national highway in Brgy. Galicia, Ilog, Negros Occidental, at 8:50 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30.

The police identified the bus driver as “Ram”, 56, of Brgy. Talagacay, Hinoba-an.

The teenager, a student from Purok Masinadyahon in Brgy. Galicia, was on his bicycle on his way home when he was sideswiped, investigators said.

A 50-year-old businessman from Purok Matinumanon, who was crossing the road from a rice mill nearby, was also hit by the bus moments later.

Both victims sustained head injuries and were taken by the Ilog Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City.

The pedestrian was declared dead, the police said.

The cyclist was later transferred to Holy Mother of Mercy Hospital in Kabankalan.

The bus driver is detained at the Ilog Police Station.

The police have impounded the bus that sustained damage to its windshield.*
