Persons Deprived of Liberty from 21 Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-run facilities across the Negros Island Region showcased their handcrafted parols at the 16th Suga sa Paskwa Parol-Making Contest held at Robinsons Place Bacolod.
The event opened on November 24 in partnership with Robinsons Mall Bacolod.
BJMP-NIR said in a press release that each participating jail created its own parol design reflecting themes of hope, unity, and Filipino Christmas traditions.
Regional director JCSupt. Brendan Fulgencio led the opening ceremony and thanked Robinsons Bacolod for supporting the event for the past 16 years.
Fulgencio said the contest highlights the creativity and craftsmanship of PDLs and gives them the opportunity to feel the warmth of the Christmas season while inside detention facilities.
Also present were JSSupt. Marie Rose Laguyo – BJMP Negros Occidental provincial administrator, mall officials, guests, and participants.
BJMP-NIR said the Suga sa Paskwa contest remains one of its most anticipated rehabilitation programs, promoting skill-building, engagement, and community connection during the holidays.*
