PCG rescues cop, daughter from near-drowning in Sipalay

The Philippine Coast Guard rescued a policeman and his teenage daughter who nearly drowned after being swept by strong current while swimming at Poblacion Beach in Brgy. 5, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday, Sept. 18.

Coast Guard District Southern Visayas said the victims were PSSg Sam Clyde Gutierrez, 39, and his 16-year-old daughter, of Silay City.

The two were pulled toward a deeper part by sudden waves and currents, the PCGF report said.

Coast Guard Station Southern Negros Occidental responders immediately launched a search and rescue operation with the help of Coast Guard Sub-Station Sipalay, Special Operations Unit, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Both victims were brought safely to shore, and later taken to the City Health Office of Sipalay.*
