The Philippine Coast Guard will go on heighted alert status at least a week before Holy Week with the expected increase in the influx of people arriving in Negros Occidental for the holidays.
PCG-Northern Negros Commander Joe Luviz Mercurio said they are waiting for the “Oplan Semana Santa” directives from their central office on measures to be taken during Holy Week.
PCG members in the region took training and refresher courses to improve their proficiency last week to ensure their competence, Mercurio said.
“We need to focus on ensuring that we are operating to ensure the safety of the passengers and beach-goers during Holy Week,” he said.
He also assured that the PCG have been patrolling the coastal areas of the province, aside from their regular watch at seaports.*
