Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution of livestock and poultry to farmers of the 6th District of Negros Occidental, which are part of the P36.5 million Typhoon Odette rehabilitation program for the province, at rites held in Dancalan, Ilog, on Thursday, August 17.

He also distributed 12,000 doses of hog cholera vaccines for pig raisers of the 6th District that are part of the 74,000 doses purchased by the provincial government.

The rehabilitation program is a joint undertaking of the Department of Agriculture and the Negros Occidental provincial government to replace the livestock and poultry lost during Typhoon Odette to enable affected animal raisers to recover, Lacson said.

The cattle, carabaos, goats, free-range chicks and feeds were given to the LGUs of Ilog, Candoni, Cauayan, and Kabankalan on Thursday as part of the Negros Occidental

Typhoon Odette Livestock and Poultry Rehabilitation Program.

The recipients were made to understand that they have an obligation to increase the population of the animals given to them, Lacson said.

“We’re hoping that this program will be successful if only to recover from the losses that we experienced in Typhoon Odette,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lacson said the list of hog raisers who will receive P2,000 each in assistance from the provincial government for the death of their pigs from various diseases is almost ready and the distribution of the funds will be done soon.

“We will do everything possible so as not to delay it further,” Lacson said.*
