An official of SM Hotels and Conventions is upbeat about Bacolod City’s economy despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

That is why they went ahead with the construction of the Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod at the SM City Bacolod Mall Complex that opened for business last week, Laurence Peña, SM Hotels and Conventions assistant vice president for rooms, said Tuesday, June 13.

In fact, they were fully booked during the weekend, he said.

“The company really made a decision to move forward and start its operations. Life must go on, the pandemic may be with us for a couple of months or years maybe,” he said.

As long as the vaccination program continues, the Bacolod market is ripe to take guests, he said.

Bacolod has been a priority area for investment because the big players have moved in, he said.

“The future is bright, Bacolod is very progressive,” he said.

“We just have to adapt to the current situation”, he said, pointing out that the hotel is implementing measures to ensure that their hotel rooms are fully sanitized for use.

“Housekeeping protocols have been extensively changed and improved with reference to the use technology and the injection a lot of training to make sure our staff and guests are protected,” he said.

They have invested a big amount of money to purchase equipment needed for this, he said.

The six-floor hotel will have 150 rooms and suites, and at present is selling 27 rooms on the second floor, he said.

They are looking at opening the third and fourth floors of the hotel by September, and rest by October, he said.

They opted to put a hotel at the SM City Bacolod Mall Complex to compliment the SMX Convention Center and the growing demand for rooms, Myka Ella Pahilanga, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod cluster marketing and communications manager, said.

Also open to guests are Arima, an all-day dining restaurant featuring Filipino heritage dishes and international cuisine, Dash – a 24/7 grab n’ go counter and Marapara Plaza, a pool bar with an outdoor social place, she said.

The hotel also has an outdoor swimming pool and fitness center, on its second floor.

It also has a pathway for guests to go to the SM City Mall, she added.*
