Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles John Brown will install Kabankalan Bishop Louie Galbines as the seventh bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod at the San Sebastian Cathedral in Bacolod City at 9 a.m. on August 11.
Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula will deliver the homily at the canonical installation. He served as the bishop of San Carlos in Negros Occidental from 2001 to 2011.
As of Thursday, 39 bishops and more than 200 priests are expected to attend the installation, Fr. Mitchel Guadalupe said at a press conference on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Galbines, who will be traveling from Kabankalan City, will be welcomed at the Tanolo Bridge in Hinigaran, where the Diocese of Bacolod starts, and will proceed to the town’s Sta. Maria Magdalena Parish Church in the afternoon of August 10.
At 1:50 p.m., his motorcade will travel from Hinigaran to Bacolod City, followed by a procession at 4:30 p.m. from the Bacolod City Government Center replica to the San Sebastian Cathedral. Vespers and a testimonial dinner will then be held.
Galbines, 59, was born in Sagay City on Nov. 18, 1966, and grew up in Ma-ao, Murcia. He was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Kabankalan in 2018.
His episcopal motto is “Confido,” Latin for “I trust.” This expresses his complete trust and confidence in God’s providence and guidance in his ministry, Fr. Dave Ryan Treyes said.
Galbines takes over the helm of the Diocese of Bacolod from Bishop Patricio Buzon, who retired at the age of 75 as required under canonical law. Buzon will return to the Don Bosco Fathers Vocation House in Cebu.
Pope Leo XIV has yet to name the new bishop of the Diocese of Kabankalan.*
