PAL plane overshoots runway at Bacolod Silay Airport: CAAP

A Philippine Airlines (PAL) Express flight from Cebu experienced a minor runway excursion on landing at the Bacolod-Silay Airport at 5:32 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed.

PAL Express flight 2P-2285, operating with a De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft, failed to stop within the intended runway length, resulting in an overshoot into the taxiway, CAAP Spokesperson Eric Apolonio told DIGICAST NEGROS.

All passengers and crew onboard were unharmed and were promptly attended to by airport personnel and authorities, he added.

“The incident involved Philippine Airlines Flight PR2285, en route from Cebu, which overshot Runway 03 due to heavy rainfall that significantly reduced braking efficiency,” a CAAP statement said.

The CAAP said as a precautionary measure, and to facilitate a thorough evaluation of the runway, Philippine Airlines canceled Flight PR2286, which was scheduled to depart from Bacolod to Mactan (Cebu).

Affected passengers were immediately notified and provided with rebooking options or alternative travel arrangements, it said.

The CAAP said it remains steadfast in its commitment to passenger safety and assures the public that a detailed investigation is underway to assess the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

All 69 passengers onboard Flight PR2285 have disembarked safely after their aircraft veered slightly out of the runway amid a heavy downpour upon touchdown at the Bacolod-Silay Airport, in a press release from PAL said.

The aircraft has been cleared by the authorities and is now safely parked at a regular aircraft bay in the Bacolod airport, where operations are running as usual, it said.*
